All-New 2023 Honda Accord Earns IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ Rating
  • Accord scores top ratings in all evaluated categories
  • All-new model receives highest possible “SUPERIOR” in the daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention rating
  • Six Honda models now rated 2023 TSP or better

The all-new 2023 Honda Accord has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest accolade, the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating.

The new Accord, a model that has long set the standard for midsize car safety performance, earned the Institute’s highest possible ratings in six out of seven evaluated categories. This includes Accord’s standard front crash prevention system, which earned a “SUPERIOR” rating from IIHS in the daytime and an “ADVANCED” rating in the nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian avoidance tests.

With this award, a combined six Honda models have earned IIHS’ TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) rating or better for 2023, with four achieving the pinnacle TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating, including all-new for 2023 models: Honda Accord, HR-V and CR-V.

Based on Honda’s long-standing “Safety for Everyone” approach, which focuses on advancing safety for everyone sharing the road, the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies are now standard on every Honda automobile model, including all Accord models. There are more than six million Honda vehicles on North American roads today featuring these comprehensive suites of safety and driver-assistive technologies, which now include Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Pedestrian Detection; Forward Collision Warning; Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW); Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

All Honda vehicles including Accord also benefit from Honda’s proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, designed to protect occupants in a wide variety of frontal collisions, along with advanced supplemental restraint systems, such as pretensioning front seatbelts, and front, side, knee and side-curtain airbags.

To qualify for a 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, a vehicle must earn “GOOD” ratings in all crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, updated side test, and original moderate overlap front tests.

This year’s TSP+ criteria also include a new nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention test. Advanced or superior performance is required in both the nighttime and daytime pedestrian tests for the higher award, as well as “ACCEPTABLE” or “GOOD” headlight ratings across all trim levels.

In addition to IIHS testing, every Honda model that has been fully evaluated in the NHTSA’s 2023 model year NCAP testing has received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score1.
